WHERE ARE LEGENDS NOW?
SAM WYCHE: A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE

Sam Wyche was headed for hospice care when he was told by doctors that he had two-to-five days to live. That same day in September, doctors delivered the news that would change his life forever: a heart transplant had not only become available, but he was a perfect match to receive it.

Three months later, Wyche has not only had a successful recovery, but is progressing ahead of schedule. He began riding a bike three weeks after surgery and now enjoys biking up to 15 miles per day. Wyche, 71, even signed up to ride in the 2018 Rose Bowl Parade.

Wyche’s mission since receiving his transplant is to pass along how important organ donation is and to encourage others to sign up to become donors.

"It is my hope that every one of my NFL brothers and sisters will not only share this gift, but join me in encouraging others to sign up as well,” said Wyche.

He hopes to meet the family of the man from whom he received the transplant, but knows that decision will be up to the family.

"I am alive today because someone I never met had the foresight to share the greatest gift
possible to mankind: the gift of a second chance at living a full life,” expressed Wyche.

For information on how to become an organ donor, visit your local DMV or go online at: www.registerme.org.
